EUREKA TOURISM is a European strategic initiative launched within the EUREKA programme and led by Spain, oriented to the sustainable improvement of tourism, leisure and cultural sectors. The objective is the definition of the main lines of technological development and the generation of R&D projects that as a result would set up products, processes or innovative services with technological basis and a commercial interest.

Oriented to public and private entities, EUREKA TOURISM is a real European network for technological innovations in the tourist sector.

EUREKATourism, first to obtain a Eurostars Project approved.

EUREKATourism is the first EUREKA Umbrella that obtained the Eurostars label and funding for one of its project. The project is called E!5533 LBA, Location Based analyzer, and companies from Switzerland, Ireland and Spain are participating.

LBA-Tourism provides actionable information about tourism in a city/region for decision makers, executives or businesses.
It is usually difficult to identify all but the most obvious changes in the tourism industry on this scale, and "trends" in tourism can be easily identified only when they reach a certain popularity threshold – at which time several parties are quick to take advantage. LBA-Tourism is designed to analyze trends and changes in the behavior of tourists throughout the city.
By using propriety sensors distributed at key locations around the city, the system identifies "trends" and processes that are too subtle to be easily identified otherwise.
Such trends may be changes in tourists' preferred method of transport ("more tourists now take the train into town from the airport than taxis"), changes in schedules ("the museum's peak hour is now 12:00 and not 13:00"), new popular sites (or growing popularity of a site) or even links between different entities ("62% of tourists who visit the Design Museum also visited the National Gallery and travel by bus"). By using complex behaviour analysis, LBA-Tourism has been tailored for the needs of the tourism industry.
LBA-Tourism is suitable for private/commercial bodies especially by focusing targeted campaigns identifying business opportunities quickly. It is especially suitable for government bodies such as central tourism offices because it allows such bodies to effectively manage their tourism market. By identifying common trends and activities, LBA-Tourism also indicates the existence of different types of tourists.
LBA-Tourism uses anonymous data, so the system can answer complex technical questions without violating personal privacy. In fact, the system complies with all privacy regulations.
