EUREKA TOURISM is a European strategic initiative launched within the EUREKA programme and led by Spain, oriented to the sustainable improvement of tourism, leisure and cultural sectors. The objective is the definition of the main lines of technological development and the generation of R&D projects that as a result would set up products, processes or innovative services with technological basis and a commercial interest.

Oriented to public and private entities, EUREKA TOURISM is a real European network for technological innovations in the tourist sector.

Call for proposals for joint R&D projects between Slovenia and Israel

Slovenia and Israel are announcing a call for proposals for joint R&D projects under the Eurostars Programme.

The call focuses on developing innovative products and applications within the field of Cleantech; Bio-Agro, agriculture and food science; ICT; Life Sciences; Biotechnology & Medical devices.

The call is managed by the Eurostars Secretariats in the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MHEST) in Slovenia and MATIMOP – The Israeli Industry Center for R&D on behalf The Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor in Israel. The call will be concluded on 22 September 2011, at 20:00 CET.

Turkey – France joint action for R+D projects

Turkey and France are announcing a joint action for R+D projects, focusing on development of innovative products and applications in all technological domains. Applicants are expected to develop ready-to-market solutions or products having strong market potential. Although projects from all technological domains are welcome, special focus will be given to electronics; ICT; industrial manufacturing; materials and transport; biological sciences and technologies.

Summary

The main objective of the Tourkhana Project is to develop a distributed software platform that provides visitors with a unique immersive, personalized, multimodal and collaborative experience, through their mobile device, while facilitating the publication of interesting routes with a great number of multimedia content.

1. Immersive, because the way to guide the tourist through the most important places by routing him through the history and interacting with typical characters of the local culture of the site.
2. Custom, because Tourkhana takes into account user preferences to offer the most adequate stories, routes and experiences that suit best the tourist preferences.
3. Multimodal, it uses a walth of resources,3D models embedded in augmented reality and stereoscopic vision, audio and video to immerse visitors in the sounds and visualizations of their own environment.
4. Collaborative, because Tourkhana uses the most important social networks and its own network, allowing users to tag places and things and share experiences.

Tourkhana allows tourists LIVE the place, because Tourkhana introduces the tourist into native stories that flow through time, going back to important ages and interacting with the corresponding characters, and space, visiting the heritage significant points.

TourKhana helps tourists interact with their environment. Each story contains challenges that will propel the tourist to look for clues in the monuments and routes. Clues will be provided in the most varied ways: in the form of video, audio, objects in Augmented Reality, 3D games. After experiencing TourKhana, tourists will learn about the history, monuments and local culture in a fun and rich way and will help to expand the tourist knowledge through social networks on a virtual and global way.
Finally, TourKhana helps to increase the local economy inviting participation from local businesses. Tourkhana will be a powerful marketing tool for local businesses and an effective way to attract tourists.

Objectives
To achieve the main objective, Tourkhana must work on the following objectives:
- Apply image processing technologies to improve positioning and tracking information on your mobile device.
- Represent 3D models to suit the characteristics of the device on new stereoscopic display in next generation devices.
- Introduce 3D animated avatars to interact with the user.
- Facilitate the interaction with local sensor networks to improve the accuracy of the location published as a service in certain areas monitored.
- Using image recognition to improve positioning in indoor environments where the Global Positioning System (GPS) is not available.
- Implement all the new technologies in a crossplatform framework that simplifies the reuse in future applications of augmented reality.
- Develop a network of tourist users to promote tourism and the international expansion of the product, integrating user profile on other social networks with TourKhana. - To facilitate the development, dissemination and reuse of digital media on tourist routes, taking into account the time dimension (most important moments in history). - Harmonize all available resources to achieve the unique and satisfying experience of the project.

These objectives are going to become the reference to international tourism market putting the latest technologies to serve the increased and enhanced tourist experience.

Sought partners
1. Graphical Interface
Partner with expertise in mobile technologies and graphical user interfaces for mobile terminals. This member must have knowledge and experience in the development of visually attractive applications for IOS and Android. This partner will be responsible for the developments relating to user interfaces throughout the system.

2. Social Networks
Partner with expertise in mobile technologies and social networks. This partner must have knowledge about IOS and Android and integration with FaceBook, Twitter and other social networks, as well as implementing typical features of such networks from the beginning.

3. History and scripts
Partner or final user with management skills and use of cultural and historical heritage of their city or country. This entity could be a public entity to monitor cultural data, cultural and historical heritage and has the capacity to manage it but other kind of entities are possible. The responsibility of this partner (or final user) will be to create stories and scenarios involving tourists to the cultural heritage of the place with the goal of create contents for users to make their routes.
