The 3 initiatives EUREKATourism, IBEROEKATurismo and Thinktur are joining forces during a full day event and are closely collaborating in the organization of the "Rethinking Tourism" Conference. This event will allow companies and organizations to exchange experiences and to be informed of the new challenges of the tourism sector, giving concrete answers to essential topics such as Research, Development and Innovation.

Project Description
Tourism4@LL will be a platform which will allow create a touristic system under the paradigm of new technologies in which all the current touristic services and products will be offered with an “own intelligence” to the user depending of its context in each moment. This platform will transform a journey in an experience.

This platform will be an “intelligent assistant” for tourist, before, during and after its touristic experience, being an element of aid from intelligent planning of the journey to real time assistance based on context awareness, as well as in measurement of satisfaction and the opportunity for sharing everything about that experience in a fast, simple and secure way, so that this information becomes in "knowledge". The platform has been designed for that all actors in the value chain provide information to the platform, getting in return some benefits and advantages of the mere sharing of information, thanks to the platform converting information into knowledge.

The implementation of this platform will include both PC and mobile environments and with additional value compared with current solutions, thanks to TOURISM4@LL will be more adaptable, more interactive and with the capacity to evaluate the context in real time for creating an unique and immersive experiences for the end user.

Partners sought
We are looking for a partner (R&D SME, University or Research Organization with cover into EUROSTARS PROGRAM) that will participate in the project TOURISM4@LL as subcontractor, in any of these roles;

Technology: Recreation of physical spaces or waypoints in 3D. This is a very important issue in the project because there is a specific module referred to the recreation of immersive experiences from real waypoints with the possibility to include in 3D spaces avatars to allow visitors to relive experiences based on the past or the future. For example thanks to this module one visitor to a medieval village will be able to relive with his smart phone, an immersive experience in that historic moment with his own avatar. The global platform TOURISM4@LL will support the integration of this type of information in waypoints.
Technology: Definition and application of an “eSecurity and ePrivacy” model to apply it in the TOURISM4@LL platform, having into account the participation of different rules from different countries and that the model should be customizable in each one.
Marketing and exploitation phase: The tasks that will be in charge to this partner are related with the study, analysis and application in the project of the most advanced and innovative techniques of marketing applied to social 3.0 networks and new user expediencies supported by these networks. In our project there is an important effort dedicated to create a proper exploitation model that will allow to the TOURISM4@LL platform be an actual product in the market in hardly any two years after completion the project, so that the study of specific rules and innovative techniques in "3.0 marketing" is more than important.

TriPlaS (Trip Planner for Seniors)

Travel market trends point to a rise in tourism from the ends of the age spectrum. This means that tourism will increasingly have to take account of the needs and preferences of senior travellers. Furthermore, the fastest growing area of leisure travel continues to be independent travel (online booking). Both facts necessarily impact upon the fact that senior citizens are not eager to use current IT technologies.

TriPlaS (Trip Planner for Seniors) is a platform conceived to help senior citizens overcome their traditional difficulties to organize their own trips using all ICT technologies currently available.
In order to do so, several technological tools will be developed as a dynamic platform so senior users can freely plan their individual or group trips. Such tools will be: a 3.0 web planner (available through a regular TV/remote control) that will use a recommendation engine fed with segmented information related to users’ profiles and a Smartphone application that will provide personalized on-travel tips based on that very same information.

All services will be developed over a core network strongly based on social connections available from an adapted web page and from a smartphone.

Desired project partner
We are looking for a technological Turkish company with a strong profile in data mining in order to develop the Travel Planner.

TCHILD: Tracking CHILDren system

Objectives
The purpose of this project is to develop an innovative tracking system (indoors and outdoors) to increase the safety of children. This system will allow parents or guardians to be more careless of their children surveillance, and thus to enjoy more of their time. The system will be applied on beaches, resorts, malls, theme parks, etc. The technology that we will use in this project is Near Field Communications (NFC). It is the upcoming new technology in new mobiles, and Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a mesh of autonomous devices distributed in the space which can incorporate sensors and actuators that monitor and control any environment. This project will be included in the EUREKA project the “21st Century Hotel Eureka project” to increase the impact and the visibility of the project.

Description
The TCHILD system will identify the area where the children are moving without carrying a large device. A wrist unit will be built with a durable, light and comfortable material for the children, and this wrist unit will have a safety lock to avoid that the children can remove it.

Consortium
MTP, leader of the Project is a SME specialized in SW Quality and SW Engineering. MTP is likely to be the greatest SW Quality Consulting in Spain. The main expertise is on the SW Development using WSN technologies.
INETSIS is specialist in the wireless communications, with experience in WSN (IEEE 802.15.4) technology.

EUREKA publishes an overview of its member countries performances

The newly issued EUREKA 25-year country overview provides an intuitive and informative look at each EUREKA-member’s participation in the initiative since the year it joined. Whilst the document provides standard statistical information, such as the number of projects the country has funded and the total cost of those projects, there is also a novel map visually illustrating member countries’ collaboration patterns with other countries.

Foreseen updates to this tool include a similar map representing EUREKA participation at a regional level, and individual booklets providing a more in-depth profile for each country, to be distributed at National EUREKA Offices.

Why is the EUREKA system working?

Under the German (July 2009 - June 2010) and Israeli EUREKA Chairmanship years (July 2010 -June 2011), EUREKA marked its 25 years of European innovation.

Since its foundation, EUREKA has endorsed over 4,000 projects for a total cost of approximately 30 billion euros, 10 billion of which were from public funds. Through EUREKA, these organisations are introducing new products, processes and services to the market, helping make Europe economically strong and socially sound.

Summary
The main objective of the Tourkhana Project is to develop a distributed software platform that provides visitors with a unique immersive, personalized, multimodal and collaborative experience, through their mobile device, while facilitating the publication of interesting routes with a great number of multimedia content.

1. Immersive, because the way to guide the tourist through the most important places by routing him through the history and interacting with typical characters of the local culture of the site.
2. Custom, because Tourkhana takes into account user preferences to offer the most adequate stories, routes and experiences that suit best the tourist preferences.
3. Multimodal, it uses a walth of resources,3D models embedded in augmented reality and stereoscopic vision, audio and video to immerse visitors in the sounds and visualizations of their own environment.
4. Collaborative, because Tourkhana uses the most important social networks and its own network, allowing users to tag places and things and share experiences.

Tourkhana allows tourists LIVE the place, because Tourkhana introduces the tourist into native stories that flow through time, going back to important ages and interacting with the corresponding characters, and space, visiting the heritage significant points.

TourKhana helps tourists interact with their environment. Each story contains challenges that will propel the tourist to look for clues in the monuments and routes. Clues will be provided in the most varied ways: in the form of video, audio, objects in Augmented Reality, 3D games. After experiencing TourKhana, tourists will learn about the history, monuments and local culture in a fun and rich way and will help to expand the tourist knowledge through social networks on a virtual and global way.
Finally, TourKhana helps to increase the local economy inviting participation from local businesses. Tourkhana will be a powerful marketing tool for local businesses and an effective way to attract tourists.

Objectives
To achieve the main objective, Tourkhana must work on the following objectives:
- Apply image processing technologies to improve positioning and tracking information on your mobile device.
- Represent 3D models to suit the characteristics of the device on new stereoscopic display in next generation devices.
- Introduce 3D animated avatars to interact with the user.
- Facilitate the interaction with local sensor networks to improve the accuracy of the location published as a service in certain areas monitored.
- Using image recognition to improve positioning in indoor environments where the Global Positioning System (GPS) is not available.
- Implement all the new technologies in a crossplatform framework that simplifies the reuse in future applications of augmented reality.
- Develop a network of tourist users to promote tourism and the international expansion of the product, integrating user profile on other social networks with TourKhana. - To facilitate the development, dissemination and reuse of digital media on tourist routes, taking into account the time dimension (most important moments in history). - Harmonize all available resources to achieve the unique and satisfying experience of the project.

These objectives are going to become the reference to international tourism market putting the latest technologies to serve the increased and enhanced tourist experience.

Sought partners
1. Graphical Interface
Partner with expertise in mobile technologies and graphical user interfaces for mobile terminals. This member must have knowledge and experience in the development of visually attractive applications for IOS and Android. This partner will be responsible for the developments relating to user interfaces throughout the system.

2. Social Networks
Partner with expertise in mobile technologies and social networks. This partner must have knowledge about IOS and Android and integration with FaceBook, Twitter and other social networks, as well as implementing typical features of such networks from the beginning.

3. History and scripts
Partner or final user with management skills and use of cultural and historical heritage of their city or country. This entity could be a public entity to monitor cultural data, cultural and historical heritage and has the capacity to manage it but other kind of entities are possible. The responsibility of this partner (or final user) will be to create stories and scenarios involving tourists to the cultural heritage of the place with the goal of create contents for users to make their routes.

Call for joint R&D projects: Sweden - Israel

Sweden and Israel launch a new call for joint R&D project outlines aimed at developing innovative products and applications with participation of companies from the two countries. The call is managed and implemented under the EUREKA Eurostars Programme.

The call is open for proposals in all thematic fields and participants can apply for EUREKA/Eurostars funding through the national programs managed by the Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) in Israel and VINNOVA in Sweden.

Project Outlines should be submitted to MATIMOP and VINNOVA by completing the EUREKA application form by 1 July 2011. Partners with eligible outlines will be recommended to submit full project proposals by 22 September 2011 according to the programme guidelines.
