The 2nd EUREKATourism Brokerage Event will be held on October 19th and 20th in Madrid, Spain and aims at promoting innovative R&D projects applied to the Tourist Sector.
This Working Conference has been designed especially for the most innovative technological and tourism companies from Europe. The main objective of this seminar consists in sharing ideas and setting up new projects aimed at innovation and technological development applied to the tourism sector.

Objectives
This European Working Conference is designed for representatives from European public and private companies and organizations requesting innovative solutions, looking for a future collaboration or wishing to establish a new project. Representatives will dynamically meet people interested in creating international collaborative R&D projects applied to the tourism sector.

Benefits for the participants
As a participant, you will have the opportunity to actively take part in workshops and in bilateral meetings in order to make new contacts with other companies of similar interests to establish a common project; and you will have access to the support of the EUREKATourism programme in terms of funding.

The EU Commissioner for research and innovation Ms. Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, announced this week a future investment of the EU of €6.4 billion for research and development, which is the biggest investment ever in this area coming from the EU and confirms innovation as a priority for the current European Commission and Belgian Presidency of the European Council.

ContexTour: New Project looking for Partners

The goal of the ContexTour proposal is the development of a user-centric platform which provides touristic services, products and information adapted to the user’s context and preferences. Through a mobile application, the platform aims for providing the tourist proactively and in real-time with touristic products and services such as activities, events, concerts, offers etc. Furthermore, the application shall guide the foreign tourist through the city, proposing him city routes with sights to visit and the means of transportation to take using interactive maps and augmented reality. The application will be largely context-aware, taking into account a whole series of variables such as e.g. geo positioning, time and date, weather conditions, user’s preferences, social contacts in the destination. A tight integration with social networks and web 2.0 platforms such as Twitter (information), Spotify (music), Flicker (photos), YouTube (video), etc. is therefore crucial to be able to automatically analyze the interests of the visitor and his social network to propose him customized services and products to the user.

Turkey joins EUREKATourism

The EUREKA network officially approved the joining and participation of a new member the Umbrella EUREKATourism. Consequently, Turkey, through the participation of TÜBITAK is a new member of the EUREKATourism Consulting Committee.

The conference is organised in association with European Parliamentarians Silvia-Adriana ŢICĂU (S&D) and Bastiaan BELDER (EFD), the Office of the Chief Scientist at the Israeli Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labour and MATIMOP - the Israeli Industry Centre for R&D.

3rd Call for Proposals for Joint R&D Projects between Slovene and Israeli Companies

Within the cooperation agreement existing between Slovenia and Israel in the fields of industrial and technological research and development participants from both countries are invited to submit joint project proposals. The projects will be performed in the framework of the Eureka program, in which both countries are full and active members.

Germany - Israel Call for proposals for Joint R&D Projects

Germany and Israel are announcing a Call for Proposals for joint R&D projects, focusing on developing innovative products and applications in all technological and application areas. Applicants are expected to develop ready to market solutions or projects which have strong market potential for Germany, Israel and Europe and will be labeled in EUREKA, a pan European network for market oriented R&D.

MATIMOP and BMWi will provide access to public funding for joint projects provided by OCS (Office of the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Industry & Trade and Labor, Israel) and by the BMWi’s ZIM program (Central Innovation program for SMEs), respectively.

Submissions should be done by June 25th, 2010.

Sweden - Israel joint R&D Projects in Life Sciences - Call for proposals

Sweden and Israel announced recently a new initiative within EUREKA with the purpose of promoting bilateral EUREKA projects between Israeli and Swedish Life science companies. The objective of this new call for joint R&D project is to stimulate generation of EUREKA projects with joint participation from the two countries and thereby increase the number of successful EUREKA projects.

It is mainly focused on promoting Individual EUREKA & Eurostars projects in Life Sciences however, according to EUREKA regulations, project proposals in other thematic fields will also be considered. Project participants can be funded through the national programs managed by respectively: the Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) in Israel and VINNOVA in Sweden.

The call is managed and implemented in the framework of EUREKA. The deadline for submissions is 15 July 2010.

A few weeks ago, the 2nd European Consulting Committee of EUREKATourism has been organized in Nice, France. Amazing, it was just amazing…

The first evening, we were invited to a gala dinner organized by “Rendez-vous en France”. This year, the biggest trade fair in France counted on more than 800 tour-operators from all around the world. The cocktail and dinner at the Acropolis were impressive from the beginning to the end, with two huge articulated dragons at the entrance door, dancers, tambours and musicians everywhere. Arriving in front of the Acropolis was as astonishing as being suddenly in a Carnival.
Then we got in and managed (I don’t really know how) to find all the Members of the Committee in this big crowd. Cocktail, classy dinner, animations, dancing, everything was ready for more than 1000 attendants.

And then the next day we had the Committee. We had the opportunity to listen to presentations from Team Côte d’Azur (they help people invest in the region) – Amadeus (did you know that originally Amadeus is a EUREKA project? Impressive, no?), and many potential Projects Looking for Partners. All decisions taken regarding the Committee will be published at a later stage.

We also went to Sophia Antipolis (exactly to SKEMA Business School), for the Bilateral Meetings (we’ve established more than 40 meetings involving French companies and the Members of our Committee)… Again, next Post will provide official information regarding this.

But what really impressed me was the infrastructure of Sophia-Antipolis. I really did not expect the place to be like this. I thought it would look like a typical business city, but not at all… Did you know that from one building to the other you can hardly see anything but trees. It’s literally full of trees, hills, woods, people jogging at lunch time. The main problems I can see here, is the traffic jam at rush hours; and above all the real challenge is not to get lost: it can take you ages to find where to go with no GPS. And I’ve been told that there’s a website called whereinsophia.com. It’s a search and localization engine of the 1450 companies located in Sophia-Antipolis, this site is obviously very useful. And do you know who launched the website? Our French Member of the Consulting Committee from Dev-Help… it’s a small world…

Now that I’m talking about Dev-Help, I have to admit that Jean-Bernard Titz kindly arranged everything during these 3 days in Nice. I would like to personally thank him very much for all the efforts and for the fantastic organization. Apart from the Committee itself which is always very interesting and productive to me professionally, everything around the Committee has been very remarkable. In terms of economic and touristic impact of the region, I feel that my experience in Nice has been very fruitful and I went back to Madrid with an image of Nice much more dynamic and technologically at the top than I could imagine.

Hopefully I will soon be able to tell you more about a new EUREKATourism project involving France!

Nota de Prensa remitida por Turistec

El clúster balear de tecnologías aplicadas al sector turístico, turisTEC ha sido invitado a formar parte del Comité Consultivo EUREKATourism. Uno de los principales objetivos de la iniciativa EUREKATourism es fomentar y facilitar la alianza entre las empresas y organizaciones, para colaborar en proyectos innovadores de tecnología y turismo a nivel europeo.

El gerente de turisTEC, Miguel Piñol ha valorado como "muy positivo" el encuentro que se llevó a cabo recientemente en Niza (Francia).

"Participar en este Comité le da la posibilidad al clúster de estar en primera línea de un órgano consultivo de uno de los principales programas europeos que promueve e impulsa proyectos específicos para el sector turístico dentro y fuera de sus Estados. Las emrpesas que forman parte de turisTEC podrán estar en contacto directo con entidades de primer orden en innovación y tecnología para el turismo a anivel mundial" ha manifestado Piñol.

El Comité Consultivo ha estado formado por entidades provenientes de Francia, Portugal, Suiza, Austria, entre otros países. Representando a España asistieron la Sociedad Estatal para la Gestión de la Innovación y las Tecnologías Turísticas (Segittur), el Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial (CDTI), Andalucía Lab y turisTEC.

EUREKA es una iniciativa intergubernamental de apoyo a la I+D+i cooperativa en el ámbito europeo, que tiene como objeto impulsar al competitividad de las empresas europeas.
